About Filing for Freedom
Filing for Freedom is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit program that provides free, compliant tax preparation services for military personnel* and first responders, who sacrifice so much for all of us and for their communities.
Tax preparation services are provided at specific military bases and community centers. In some cases services are completed in person, in other cases they are done virtually, and a few provide both methods to choose from. Interested military personnel and first responders register with the base or community center closest to them.
Filing for Freedom is made possible thanks to the many professional tax preparers who volunteer their time and expertise – in increments of one half-day session or more, depending on their availability.
It would not be possible, however, to offer a service of this caliber without the support of numerous Sponsors and Corporate Partners. Their generosity allows us to thank our dedicated volunteers by offering lunch, snacks and beverages throughout their shifts, to provide the many supplies needed for printing, copying, notetaking and miscellaneous needs, and to publicize and promote the service to the people who volunteer their involvement and those who will benefit from it.
We appreciate the support of many numerous state CPA societies, state and local bar associations, the Pro Bono sections of the American Bar and Federal Bar, and government agencies including the Department of Defense and the Internal Revenue Service.
